Catholic University school of Medicine, is located in Sofala province, in the city of Beira. Medical students however are drawn from many of the Northern Provinces, and after graduation placed in positions around the country, in public, private and NGO sectors. Currently UCM produces about 40% of the total number of doctors graduating each year. Activities will address human resources for health, and health delivery services. Poor quality of training, and specifically practical training, in rural areas, is a barrier to achieve Treatment, Care, and PMTCT targets and improve health outcomes for national populations. This program, through scholarships, contributes a large proportion of the Core interventions will include the following activities: (1) assessment and revision of the UCM’s curriculum (including HIV/AIDS clinical training, sexually transmitted infections, TB, English Language, health administration, and others)(2) Retention of 3-5 Mozambican faculty members with technical and teaching skills; (3) strengthen rural clinical training for medical students, and provide scholarship for medical students. This activity also funds a small University Health Center (San Lucas), which provides HIV services, and serves as a center of excellence for practical training.
