The aim is to strengthen PMTCT and TB services provided in targeted areas within the Eastern Province. Sites have been chosen based on the needs expressed by the PHO, the resources available and the reported needs of the communities accessing these sites. Our activities are focused on HIV infected pregnant women and their children, their partners and all patients presenting with TB at the supported site. In COP ’14, UNC Eastern will continue to work with the DMO and PHO to build capacity for local management and ownership; formal management training support for joint mentorship activities, data review meetings, district integrated meetings and data quality audits. Support for sites and management teams to develop and implement standard operating procedures, data tools and quality checks will be provided. UNC Eastern will support the DMO to implement the new integrated PMTCT guidelines including: training in ART adherence, Option B +training, on-site orientation, lay counselors monthly meetings and follow up. Activities focused on increasing HIV testing (especially couples testing and counseling), uptake of services and earlier access to services ( presenting earlier in pregnancy) through facilities and communities; through intensified community engagement activities such as formation and strengthening of youth friendly corners, community sensitization, focus group discussions, men’s meetings and formation of male action groups and meetings with influential leaders including elders, chiefs and church leaders. We intend to transition 2 PMTCT districts and we will therefore focus our resources on improving the quality and scope of services provided in Lundazi District only. The CIDRZ EP TB program will continue to cover 43 sites in Chipata District.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.
