Food Security Innovation Lab: Collaborative Research on Assets and Market Access (BASIS/AMA), will conduct an impact evaluation of the Girls Education activity. The Girls Education overall objective is to enhance the capacity of families and communities to support, protect and care for OVC, and services will be prioritized and focused on addressing the most critical needs of OVC as well as the members of their family. The proposed program will likely contain a range of interventions or combinations of interventions including childcare support (to remove some of the burden of caring for younger siblings from older girls), school assistance support designed to support secondary school attendance for older girls, nutrition education/counseling for caregivers intended to improve nutrition especially in younger children, and, finally, economic strengthening intervention aimed at improving the economic well-being of the overall family. As currently envisioned, the economic strengthening component will involve the promotion of village-level savings groups. The Goal of this Impact Evaluation is: To build evidence of interventions that improve the wellbeing of vulnerable children, to inform future programming. Purchased/leased vehicles are not planned under this mechanism. The evaluation will also employ a gender lens where applicable.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.

This mechanism has no published performance targets or indicators.
