Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute is a US based implementing partner mandated to reach out to the KMLTTB and support in the implementation of the validation of in vitro diagnostic devices and reagents. This mechanism also aims at supporting implementation of WHO-AFRO SLIPTA activities that will lead to accreditation of MOH laboratories nationally.

Strategies for cost-efficiency include: regular business system analysis, expenditure analysis and adopting harmonization of trainings and on site embedded mentorship strategies any other programmatic cost-efficient strategies will be given priority.

CLSI is supporting MOH facilities and the lab regulatory body and building the capacity of local staff and these institutions in view of country ownership and self-sustainability at program expiration

In support of one monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system, the program will periodically monitor and report on key laboratory program indicators, such as number of accredited laboratories , number of labs undergoing accreditation, and number of lab personnel trained.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.
