This mechanism will support the Ministry of Health Directorate of Family Health (DFH) to integrate PMTCT activities into maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH) services to improve the health of women and their families and to coordinate and monitor PMTCT Option B+ when it is rolled in Cameroon.

By working at all levels of the health system, DFH will ensure a coordinated national response and harmonization of activities to optimize resources and reduce the cost of health interventions. DFH will invest in the national human resource pool by increasing the number of qualified health personnel and providing mentorship and supportive supervision. DFH will help the health system become more cost-efficient by contributing to reductions in MTCT, maternal and infant mortality, and sexual HIV transmission within discordant couples through the implementation of PMTCT Option B+ and ensuring linkages to care and treatment. DFH will capacitate human resources to deliver quality health services; strengthen coordination mechanisms among the national PMTCT, MNCH, and ART programs; and ensure a simplified system for enrollment of pregnant women and family members in need of care.

DFH will produce quarterly reports to CDC/PEPFAR to monitor progress of the program. These reports will include the number of meetings held and the number of health personnel trained.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.

This mechanism has no published performance targets or indicators.
