The Global Fund is a key player in the health sector and provides a significant share of funding to combat HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and malaria in Burundi. Through the implementation of the Round 8 HIV/AIDS grant (Phase II with more than $80,000,000 over three years), the Global Fund provides:

• ART treatment for the general population;

• Prevention services among the general population and for specific at risk populations;

• Improved diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections in health facilities;

• Enhanced prevention of HIV through blood transfusions, providing better case management of accidental exposure to blood, and to survivors of sexual violence;

• Expanded primary prevention of HIV infection in women of reproductive age;

• Strengthened PMTCT services by integrating reproductive health services.

The PEPFAR program will be working closely with the Global Fund to make sure that necessary synergies are established and efforts to avoid duplication and overlap are successful. In fact, the success of PEPFAR programs is intrinsically linked to an effective implementation of GF–supported programs. In order to maximize the chance of successful implementation, PEPFAR will bring its technical assistance through Grant management Solutions (GMS) to help Burundi through the strengthening of the Country Coordinating Mechanism and the principal Recipients of the GF grants.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.

This mechanism has no published performance targets or indicators.
