The overarching goal of the Integrated Health Project in Burundi is to assist the Government of Burundi, the communities, and the civil society to improve the health status of assisted populations in the targeted project areas. The project will build on previous and on-going USG and other donor investments, and will focus on increasing the use of quality integrated health and support services, underpinned by strengthened health systems and structures. At the end of the project’s five years, the Burundian government, civil society organizations, and supported communities will have demonstrably increased capacity to deliver quality integrated health and support services and communications and behavioral interventions. Comprehensive services will be provided by clinical and community partners in HIV prevention through strategic communications, prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT), support to the Global Fund antiretroviral therapy program, support to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), and counseling and testing. The project has three program objectives: Objective One: Increased positive behaviors at the individual and household level;

2. Objective Two: Increased use of quality integrated health and support services

; 3. Objective Three: Strengthened health systems and civil society capacity.

The Integrated Health Project has other health components including malaria, family planning and reproductive health, and maternal and child health and will contribute to the implementation of the Global Health Initiative Strategy and the Burundi Health Development Plan.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.
