I-TECH's overall goal in Botswana is to provide TA to strengthen government health systems and to ensure that health care providers across the public and private sectors deliver high-quality care for HIV/AIDS patients. The mechanism has coverage across Botswana as most activities deal with national programs managed by the MOH. The target populations for many activities are health care providers providing HIV clinical services. Funding TA and training with I-TECH is relatively cost efficient through the HRSA mechanism as TA and training have a lower indirect rate (8%) compared to other activities (26%). Most of I-TECH’s activities involve capacity building within the MOH. As these efforts become successful, there should be less dependence on external support, including that provided by PEPFAR/B. I-TECH’s monitoring and evaluation activities have resulted in three scientific publications during 2013-2104. Two were on strategic information activities and one was on health systems strengthening. As of September 30, 2013 I-TECH had 7 months of pipeline. They are currently in the third year of their five-year agreement.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.

This mechanism has no published performance targets or indicators.
