Peace Corps Malawi's HIV program will contribute to broader USG HIV programming to reduce new HIV cases, mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS and strengthen health systems. To reach these objectives, Peace Corps Malawi will continue training PCVs in HIV-related areas to equip them with knowledge and skills, so that the Volunteers are able to disseminate HIV prevention messages and influence positive behavior change in their communities. Through use of evidence-based tool kits, the volunteers will work to improve the lives of OVCs, caregivers and PLHIVs. PC will strategically place Health volunteers in high HIV prevalence areas identified and agreed upon by PEPFAR team and USG agencies during the 2014 COP review process. PCVs and their Counterparts will refer individuals to various Health services that include HCT, VMMC, PMTCT, TB and STI screening and family planning, promote treatment adherence and follow up of defaulters. Response Volunteer placements will be made in government institutions at the district level to enhance health programming in support of a more effective national HIV&AIDS response program.. PC Malawi will collaborate with other USG agencies to explore more strategic PCV placement in an effort to offer a holistic package of services to these communities. PC will further intensify integration of HIV interventions in both Education and Environment sector activities nation-wide.

The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.
