The School of Public Health was established in partnership with FICOCRUZ in 2005. Beginning in 2007, the school worked with the University of Augustino Neto to develop courses in Public Health, Occupational Medicine, and Hospital Administration. In 2011, short courses began being provided to health care professionals in basic epidemiology twice a year. Over 300 professionals have been trained through these courses. In 2014, the school was declared an official institute. The institute has been charged with the following missions: to train postgraduate public health professionals in public health; to investigate and evaluate systems, programs, and projects that can be used for public health; advise MOH on public health regulations; conduct monitoring and evaluation; conduct scientific investigations; and provide public health consultants. The Ministry of Health (MoH) SPH will conduct training to strengthen Human Resources for Health (HRH). They will coordinate activities to build the capacity of health care professionals (physicians, nurses and laboratorians) in HIV, public health, epidemiology, laboratory sciences and surveillance.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.
