HSRC is a parasatatal mandated by the SAG to provide epidemiological data useful in directing the country’s efforts in designing evidence based interventions. A flagship project, the South African national HIV prevalence, incidence, behavior, and communication surveys, supported by PEPFAR, has been a key source of epidemiological information supporting/strengthening HIV surveillance and informing policy, planning, and decision making. As a follow-on to PEPFAR's current support of HIV strategic information generation, HSRC will be funded to the conduct of the fifth national household survey. This survey will yield epidemiological data to support the partnership framework goal to strengthen the effectiveness of the HIV /TB response. The survey is to be enhanced with a focus on incidence monitoring. This IM will also support undertaking other priority epidemiological surveys and surveillance operations research that will serve as a basis for evaluating the NSP for HIV and AIDS and STI 2014-2017.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.

This mechanism has no published performance targets or indicators.
