DOS will expand its program of providing scholarships for medical students specializing in HIV/AIDS treatment. The aim of this program is to provide educational opportunities for young people in areas with high HIV prevalence and limited economic opportunities to receive formal medical training with a view to increasing the critical shortage of physicians available for HIV/AIDS care and treatment. The Medical School of the Catholic University of Mozambique is located in Beira, Mozambique's second largest city and area of very high HIV prevalence. Most students benefiting from this program are from high-prevalance, central Mozambique and some from the northern provinces.

As an integral part of their studies, student are required to do internships in local clinics in Beira or elsewhere in Sofala province, enabling the newly trained to begin providing services to numbers of PLWHA as rapidly as possible. This funding expands support for community-based outreach activities and training that students participate in around HIV awareness and education.
