Total Funding: $80,000

Funding for Laboratory Infrastructure (HLAB): $80,000

The NPHRL will be the first in Guyana with its modern technology and modern methods of laboratory

systems and the NPHRL staff require a higher level of technical and management skills than those

possessed by the projected staff. On-going training for NPHRL staff is required in order to build the human

capacity in Guyana to a level whereby the NPHRL will be able to be internationally certified. Specific

specialized training in microbiology and related areas in management and quality assurance have been

identified as needs by the CDC and the Ministry of Health. The American Association of Microbiologists

(ASM) has expertise in this area and will be able to assess the specific training needs in-country and

provide the required training. ASM will work with the Ministry of Health and CDC to continually identify

training needs and possible ways to meet emerging needs in the focused technical areas as the laboratory

comes on line.
