CDC DGHA in conjunction with COMISCA is supporting the development of a regional public health surveillance and laboratory network for Central America. This project will enhance the current regional cooperation, and will create a surveillance platform to share information and support the regional implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR).

COMISCA will support the implementation of the regional platform for information integration in health, and will specifically include HIV/AIDS. It will subsequently begin the analysis phase on indicators that cover HIV/AIDS, STI and TB (Regional Database).

SE-COMISCA is working with Ministries of Health in the region with the purpose of providing strategic information with the purpose of keeping the HIV epidemic and response as a priority in the political agenda of the countries and the region. The strategic information platform which consolidates regional information is being implemented in the information center of the each MOH of the region to ensure update information for decision-making.

The regional public health surveillance and the regional laboratory network that SE-COMISCA is promoting will be supported by Ministries of Health throughout the region as part of their commitment to contribute for health surveillance and regional lab network sustainability.

Funding for Laboratory Infrastructure (HLAB): $130,000

COMISCA will continue to expand the HIV/AIDS quality service delivery and improve institutional and human resource capacity as it relates to HIV/AIDS & STI. This will be conducted by supporting countrys efforts to develop their lab diagnostic capacity facilitating the participation of national laboratories in the regional laboratory network and providing laboratory assistance for training, technology transfer and exchange. COMISCAs lab efforts will also focus on providing trainings to develop overall quality control in national and reference laboratories, and improving diagnosis for HIV/STIs among Most at Risk Populations (MARPS).

Funding for Strategic Information (HVSI): $170,000

COMISCA will continue strengthening and supporting the Ministries of Health to establish and implement the regional integrated platform to monitor the HIV epidemic in the region, and begin analysis - HIV/AIDS, STI and TB Regional Database based upon regional meetings to work with the regional set of indicators, and facilitating trainings on data analysis.
