The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is an advocate for the critical role and needs of laboratory medicine and networks in Africa. ASLM in Luanda, Angola aims to build capacity, sustainability and quality improvement activities. ASLM trains laboratory supervisors on the process of auditing a laboratory for the purpose of ensuring that supervisor's can conduct self assessments and know when a lab is ready for accreditation. ASLM reinforces the pivotal role laboratories play in global research and development. ASLM will organize a five day SLIPTA Auditors Training Course in Tanzania in October 2014. Participants who successfully complete the auditors training will audit and provide TA and guidance to medical labs. Participants are required to conduct a post training audit practicum to become an independent auditor. ASLM will organize a three day mentoring workshop. The four expected outcomes include: 1) increased assistance for External Quality Assessment/Proficiency Testing participation, 2) guidance in developing quality manuals, 3) training for mentor laboratory managers and quality officers to improve laboratory quality processes, and 4) help develop a work plan for internal auditing activities.

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.
